Printers undoubtedly form the most basic form of accessory for a home or an office, be it a small office or a big brand organization. You can find a lot of different types of printers such as inkjet printers, laser printers, dot matrix printers and many others at places all around you. You can easily purchase a printer as there are a lot of printers available at very affordable prices. However it has often been observed that printers start to show certain glitches or problems soon after purchase and being used for a short span of time. This is the reason why printer repair services are important.
There is yet another very important reason why these printer repair services are important for you. This is due to the fact that the printers available these days in the market are highly technology intensive. What this means is that any problem or glitches occurring with the printer are highly technology related and this is the reason why you require someone with great technical expertise to cure your printer and repair it off the glitch.
There are certain small glitches and everyday problems which can be very easily repaired by the users itself. For example, you do not need to call for printer repair services for clearing out a paper jam or the condition where the printer runs out of paper for printing. The need for these printer repair service arises for the bigger and the more complex problems related to printers which cannot be catered to by everyday users and need expert attention.
Apart from the times when it presents problems, it is also advisable to call for printer repair services on regular basis for maintenance as well as checks on them. Finding a good repairman is a necessity if you are running a business.

This post provides printer support to general troubleshooting of Dot Matrix Printers.
• If the printer self-tests OK but will not print jobs from the computer, check the following:
• If a dot matrix printer shuts down and recovers frequently, it may be having problems with its "thermistor". A thermistor is a device used to keep the printer from overheating. Try replacing this part before you replace the entire print head.
• Some printers can be set by dip switches for unidirectional or bidirectional printing. Bidirectional is normally faster, but might cause problems with graphic output for some combinations of applications and printers. If you suspect this problem, reset your dip switches for unidirectional printing.
• If your output is double-spaced when you expect single-spaced, you may be getting an extra Carriage Return and Line Feed at the end of every line.Reset the dip switch(es) controlling this.
• If your print quality is poor, first check the ribbon for wear. Also examine the print head spacing. Your head may be too far away from the platen for your current paper thickness. If adjusting the spacing doesn't solve the problem, clean the print head itself with a cotton swab dipped lightly in alcohol.
• If the printer self-tests OK but will not print jobs from the computer, check the following:
- Dip switch settings
- Proper driver for your application software
- Bad or disconnected cable

The 0x00000000 error is one of the great banes of Windows users around the world. It’s about as cryptic as a Windows error can possibly be, and as a result, you’ll find endless pages upon pages of different solutions on the official Microsoft website. When you get a 0x00000000, you’ll find that it’s nearly always accompanied by another error code and a message.
Unfortunately, sometimes that message looks like this:
“A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer”.
Now, as you can see by that, the 0x00000000 can become a terminal death sentence to your home computer if it isn’t resolved quickly. Thankfully, we can at least mark down one area where the 0x00000000 error is more common than others. That area is the memory. You may have noticed that when you first run Windows after bringing a computer home, everything is smooth and everything flows perfectly. Well, after a few weeks, the computer begins to lose its optimal performance. This is because the more we use an operating system, the more references it gains in its Windows registry and the more likely it is to become suspect to corrupt memory.
Corrupt memory can be passed on my bad RAM in the computer itself, or it can also be more evidently encountered on the operating system level with regards to the Windows registry. Always keeps a registry cleaning utility handy as it will become a life saver in certain instances of the 0x00000000 error arising.
In fact, your first port of call when you get a 0x00000000 error should be to check on the registry. Run a scan and repair any bad entries.
These bad entries are most likely caused by recent installations of new hardware – such as printers, scanners, webcams and the like. Even if the registry appears to be fine, you can pick up 0x00000000 errors just by having different devices interfering with each other. Assuming you’ve installed a new hardware device before the 0x00000000 error, go back and uninstall it completely. Now run a system scan to remove spyware or corrupt registry entries.
Install the hardware device from scratch following word for word the instructions that the manufacturer has given. Then go on to the manufacturer’s website and download the latest patches and drivers. This will ensure that you’re completely up to date and running of the most suitable drivers for your hardware. If you still can’t get rid of the 0x00000000 error, it’s likely that the problem is rooted to the system itself.
You will need to ensure that your cache is running correctly for hardware and the processor itself. In a worst case scenario, you may need to send the PC for repair. This is particularly likely if the 0x00000000 error is stemming from a problem with the System bus or CPU.
As you can see, the possibilities for the root of your 0x00000000 problem are quite– viruses and bad registry entries – we can know for sure whether further assistance is required on a professional level.

Printer drivers are not responsible for publishing a print queue to Directory Services. The Microsoft Windows 2000 and later print folder creates a print queue object (by calling the spooler's SetPrinter function) during the process of installing the printer.
Print queue properties are published so that a user can search for printers with particular properties by using the Search option on the task bar's Start menu. The print folder publishes some, but not all, of the printer capabilities that are available to it from DriverCapabilities. Only capabilities that are considered useful for browsing purposes are published.
Printer drivers can add or modify a print queue object's property information. The print queue properties that can be published are identified by SPLDS_-prefixed constants, defined in winspool.h. To add or modify printer properties, your driver must use these predefined property name identifiers.
To add or modify a print queue object's property information, carry out the following steps:
1. Add property names and values to the registry, under the SPLDS_DRIVER_KEY, by calling the spooler's SetPrinterDataEx function.
2. Call the spooler's SetPrinter function, with an input structure of PRINTER_INFO_7 (described in the Windows SDK documentation) and an action of DSPRINT_UPDATE, to inform the spooler that it should update the published print queue object. (Drivers should not specify an action of DSPRINT_PUBLISH.)
These steps should be implemented within the printer driver's DrvPrinterEvent function, when the function receives a PRINTER_EVENT_INITIALIZE event.
If a driver must obtain the current values for a printer's published properties, it should call GetPrinterDataEx or EnumPrinterDataEx to obtain the information from the registry, which is spooler-maintained and always up to date. An alternative way is to call GetPrinter to obtain the print queue's object identifier and then to call ADSI functions to obtain the values of the published properties. This technique is not recommended, both because it is more resource intensive and because returned data might not always be current.

In this post you get further information about Postscript printer support and how to Windows NT supports PostScript printers that uses industry-standard PostScript Printer Description (PPD) files. Windows NT installs PPD files using PRINTER.INF. This post provides detailed instructions on how to modify PRINTER.INF so that you can install PPD files obtained from print device manufacturers.
Follow the steps to install PPD files from print device manufacturers:
1. Obtain the OEMSETUP.INF from the DDK in the
\WINNT.NT\WINNT351.DDK\DDK\SRC\SETUP\INF\PRINTER directory.
Rename the file to PRINTER.INF.
-or-
Obtain PPDInst.exe from the Microsoft Download Center. http://download.microsoft.com/download/winnt351/driver/11/n351/en-us/ppdinst.exe
2. Create a file called DISK1. The content does not matter. The Setup procedure only checks to make sure it exists. If you perform the installation on a non-Intel (x86) computer, name the file CDROM.W.
3. Copy DISK1 (or CDROM.W), the PRINTER.INF file and your PPD file to a floppy disk or a sub-directory on your hard disk.
4. Copy PSCRIPT.DLL, PSCRPTUI.DLL and PSCRIPT.HLP from an existing Windows NT installation to the floppy disk or the sub-directory on the hard disk. If you install support for Intel-based (x86) computers, look for these files in the following directory:
%SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\SPOOL\DRIVERS\W32X86\1
5. The PRINTER.INF file installs support for one particular printer: the HP LaserJet IIISi. To install support for your printer, do the following:
1. Change each reference of RASDD to PSCRIPT and RASDDUI to PSCRPTUI.
2. Modify the following section using a text editor, such as Notepad:
[Files-PrinterData]
hppcl5ms = 1,hppcl5ms.dll , SIZE=999
Change the file name (for example: HPPCL5MS.DLL) to match the name of the PPD file of your printer. HPPCL5MS is an identifier and it does not require any change for your new PPD file name.
3. If you change the identifier, you must also change it in the [Options] section below:
[Options]
"HP LaserJet IIISi" = rasddui, hppcl5ms, rasdd
Change HP LaserJet IIISi to match the name of your printer. To determine the name, open the PPD file for your printer using a text editor and search for the NickName. If you have changed the identifier above, then you must change it in the following section:
[OptionsTextENG]
"HP LaserJet IIISi" = "OEM HP LaserJet IIISi"
6. In the [ProductType] section, make sure that STF_PLATFORM is correctly set for your computer, as follows:
STF_PLATFORM = x
where x is Mips, I386, Alpha or PPC (PowerPC).
7. If you are not installing the PPD file on an Intel-based computer, change the following line in the [Source Media Descriptions] section from DISK1 to CDROM.W:
1 = "OEM Disk (PRINTER)" , TAGFILE = disk1
8. Start Windows NT Print Manager. From the Printer menu, select Create Printer.
9. Enter the printer name and select a port.
10. For Driver, select Other. Enter the drive and path of the printer driver disk (the same directory on step 3 above).
11. In the Select Driver dialog box, select the driver and click OK.
12. In the Windows NT Setup dialog box, enter the drive and path of the printer driver disk (the same directory on step 3 above) and click Continue.
NOTE: If you supply the Windows NT CD-ROM path instead of supplying the driver disk path, the Setup program will successfully copy the PostScript files, and then prompt for the directory where the PPD file is located. At this point, the path cannot be changed back to the disk directory and will only accept the CD-ROM path.
Follow the steps to install PPD files from print device manufacturers:
1. Obtain the OEMSETUP.INF from the DDK in the
\WINNT.NT\WINNT351.DDK\DDK\SRC\SETUP\INF\PRINTER directory.
Rename the file to PRINTER.INF.

[Files-PrinterData]
hppcl5ms = 1,hppcl5ms.dll , SIZE=999
STF_PLATFORM = x
where x is Mips, I386, Alpha or PPC (PowerPC).
7. If you are not installing the PPD file on an Intel-based computer, change the following line in the [Source Media Descriptions] section from DISK1 to CDROM.W:
1 = "OEM Disk (PRINTER)" , TAGFILE = disk1

Now I am going to discuss about how to connect a printer using web browser. With the Internet printing characteristic of Microsoft Windows XP, you can use your Web browser to connect to share printers on a print server that is running Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). Printing is implemented by way of the Internet Print Protocol (IPP), which is encapsulated in the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). By typing the Uniform Resource Locator (URL) of a remote printer in the Address bar of your browser, you can connect to, and print from the printer in the same way as if it were attached to your own computer. In addition, get further printer support if you have Manage Printers permission for the printer, you can also pause or resume operation of the printer.
Steps To connect a printer using a Web browser:
1. Start Microsoft Internet Explorer.
2. In the Address bar, do one of the following:
o If you do not know the name of the printer to which you want to connect, type the following, where PrintServer is the name of the print server:
http://PrintServer/printers/
For example, to view a list of all printers that are located on a print server named MyPrintServer, type the following:
http://MyPrintServer/printers/
A list of all printers on the print server is displayed in your browser window. In the list of available printers, click the name of the printer that you want.
-OR-
o If you know the name of the printer to which you want to connect, type the URL of the printer by using the following format, where PrintServer is the name of the print server and Printer is the name the printer:
http://PrintServer/Printer/
For example, if you want to go directly the page of a printer that is named Laser that is shared from a server called MyPrintServer, type the following:
http://MyPrintServer/Laser/
3. In the browser window, a Web page opens in which the printer properties are displayed. Click the links to view more information about your printer, or perform a printer or document action.
4. To connect to the printer, click Connect under Printer Actions.
You are connected to the printer, and Windows installs the appropriate printer driver for your computer.
After the installation is complete, the icon for this printer is added to the Printers and Faxes folder on your computer. You can then use, monitor, and administer the printer as if it were attached to your computer.
Note: To connect to an Internet printer, you can also type the URL of the printer in any window or folder with an Address bar, such as Windows Explorer, My Computer, or the Printers and Faxes folder.

In this addition you found about how to share a printer to network.If you have a printer attached to your computer, you can share it with anyone on the same network. It doesn't matter what kind of printer it is, as long as the printer is installed on your computer and directly attached with a USB (universal serial bus) cable or other type of printer cable. Whoever you choose to share the printer with will be able to use it to print, provided they can locate your computer on the network.
