Installing New Drivers
If you have recently purchased your Dell printer, but can't get it to respond when you try to print something, you may need to install some drivers. Drivers are small programs that allow your computer to interact with the new peripheral. Ink Spotting and Splotching
If you encounter frequent spotting or splotching on your documents when you use your Dell printer, then you need to do some routine cleaning on your printer's print head. The print head area is the place where the ink cartridges are contained and moved around. To clean the print head area, simply take a dry cloth (preferably lint-free) and wipe down the bars that control the movement of the printer cartridge container. After any excess dust/ink has been removed from these bars, remove the print cartridges and clean them by lifting up the protective film on the bottom and then gently rubbing a q-tip on the bottom (without damaging the bottom of the cartridge.) Lastly, use more q-tips to clean the cartridge module, before replacing the ink cartridges. Then try printing a test page to see if the spotting/splotching problem has subsided.
Paper Feed Issues
If you have a paper jam or the Dell printer is telling you that the printer is out of paper when the feed tray is full, then you probably have a problem with the spooler. Open the print head to expose the spooler, and check for jams. If you see some paper fibers wrapped around the spooler, turn the printer off, and then gently try to remove the paper with your hands (in the case of large sheets) or a pair of tweezers (in the case of small, winding fibers). Once you have cleared any jams, try cleaning the spooler off with a lint-free cloth, and double-checking its placement in the printer. If it seems crooked or off-center, try looking to the sides to try and find its rightful place. You can then either "click" it into place or tighten the side screws with an eyeglass screwdriver (depending on the model).

Some DOS programs or older software running under Windows XP may have difficulty printing to a shared printer. These software programs may be written so that they only recognize LPT1 and LPT2. If this is the case, you permanently link LPT1 or LPT2 to a shared printer, and see if this allows the software to print correctly.

2. At the command prompt, enter the following command:
net use lptX: \\PRINTSERVER\SHARENAME /persistent:yes

• If the printer self-tests OK but will not print jobs from the computer, check the following:
- Dip switch settings
- Proper driver for your application software
- Bad or disconnected cable

Printing directly onto a CD or DVD using the Epson Stylus Photo RX680 inkjet printer couldn’t be easier, and the results are fantastic. This Step-By-Step guide will demonstrate how to do it. Note that you need to make sure the CD or DVD you’re using can be printed on; check the label before you buy. Also, make sure you have already burned to the disk; once you’ve put the label on, you can’t burn data to the disk.
To begin the process of printing directly onto a CD or DVD, press the CD Print Tray button. This will raise the CD/DVD tray to raise into position.
Load the CD or DVD into the holderLoad the CD or DVD onto the holder. The white side should be facing up. Remember that the disk should already be full of data; once you print on it, you won’t be able to burn data to it.

Choose the photo you want to use as the label
Choose the photo you want to print as the label. In this example, the memory card (in red box) holds the image I want to print, but you can get the image from your computer as well. If the image needs any simple editing, use the Auto Correct function. You’ll be able to move the outline of the CD around the photo here, or make the image bigger or smaller to fit better. Remember that nothing will print across the center.
Press StartPress Start and the printing will begin.
Remove CD from the tray
When it finishes printing, remove the CD or DVD from the tray and you're finished!
Check the Proper Order of the Tanks
Ink tanks need to be installed in a certain arrangement, as noted in your printer’s user guide. For the Canon Pixma, the proper arrangement from left to right is Black 8, Black 5, Yellow 8, Magenta 8, and Cyan 8.
Remove the Plastic Wrapper from the Ink TankTear the plastic wrapper off the ink tank by pulling down on the orange strip. Be careful not to touch the metal chip at the bottom of the tank.
Remove the Orange Protective CapTake off the protective plastic cap by turning the plastic handle counterclockwise.
Turn the Printer On and Lift the Cover
Turn your printer on, and lift the cover. Make sure you're not just lifting the top cover that provides access to the glass copy plate. Lift from below the control panel.
Open the Inner CoverThe ink-tank tray will move toward the center of the printer, giving access to the ink-jet tanks. Open the inner cover by pulling it toward you.
Push the Ink Tank Into PlacePush the front of the ink tank until the tank snaps into place. It will light up when it’s in correctly.
Close the Inner CoverPush the inner cover closed before closing the printer cover.
Close the Printer Cover
Gently close the printer cover until it locks in place.
Follow these steps:
1. On the Windows 2000-based computer, install the printer locally on LPT1.
2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
3. Right-click the printer, and then click Properties.
4. On to the Ports tab, click LPT1.
5. Click Add Port.
6. Double-click Local Ports.
7. Type \\servername\printershare, where servername is the name of the server and printershare is the name of the printer share.
8. Click OK.
In simplest terms, printers connect to wired networks through the router. One of the plugs goes into the router, and the other end goes into the printer’s jack. When all the pieces are restarted, you’ll need to install print driver on all the PCs that will use the printer. This can usually be found on the CD that came with the printer (as well as on the manufacturer’s Web site).
Wireless
If your printer is wireless-enabled, you don’t have to connect any cables to it at all. You will need to get it recognized by the network, meaning that if you have security features enabled on your wireless router (and you should), you’ll need to share those with the printer. Consult the printer’s manual for the details, as this process is different from printer to printer.
Print Servers
Even printers that aren’t network-enabled out of the box can often be networked by using a print server, a device that connects to your router and your printer. This lets the printer be shared by any computer on the network.
Bluetooth
Bluetooth is a short-range wireless protocol that many PCs and cell phones use (for a wireless headset, for example). You can find many printers that can be Bluetooth-enabled as well, so you can print from your phone or (if you're not too far away) your laptop. It's unlikely that a printer will come with Bluetooth built in, so you'll need an adapter. These are thumb drives that plug right into the printer's USB port. If you intend to print from your phone, Bluetooth is a handy option.
Sharing a Printer
The Printing Preferences menu for your printer will give you an option to share the printer if it’s network ready. This process is usually quite simple: open the printer’s properties (in Windows you’ll open the Control Panel, choose Printers and Other Hardware, and then View Installed Printers) and look for a tab called “Sharing.” You’ll need to give the printer a name so that the other computers on the network can find it.
Error: Printer driver was not installed - access denied
Cause: When you add the printer driver, Windows 2000 copies the printer's .inf file to the
%SystemRoot%\Inf folder. However, members of the Print Operators group do not
have permission to write to the %SystemRoot%\Inf folder, and access is denied.
Details Resolution: Use one of the following workarounds to install the printer driver:
1. Install the printer driver while you are logged on as an administrator or a member
of the Server Operators group.
2. Give members of the Print Operators group Write permission on the
%SystemRoot%\Inf folder.
3. Copy the .inf file to the %SystemRoot%\Inf folder in advance while you are logged
on as an administrator or a member of the Server Operator group.

To do this, follow the steps below:
Put CD in CD drive.
Explore the CD.
Go to a folder of Util.
In Util there is a folder CCC. In CCC folder you will find 4 uninstallers.

uninstaller_L3.bat
uninstaller_L4.bat
Run all of them in the same order, after every step reboot the computer.
After that Open registry through regedit.Take back-up of it.
Browse to - My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Current Control Set\Enum\USB, My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Control Set001\Enum\USB, and other Control Sets as well.
Search of any entry by the name of Vid_0000&Pid_0000.
If this entry if found delete it.
Search for any other entry which starts with Vid_03f0&Pid_xxxx (Vid Stands for Vendor ID and Pid stand for Product ID, and every HP USB product has a Vid starting with Vid_03f0.)
If any Vid_03f0&Pid_xxxx if found click on (+) sign next to it and inside it there will be some folders. Click on each folder and check for the entry (DeviceDesc) in right pane.
If any entry(s) is/are found corresponding to the AIO which is being uninstalled then delete the entire Vid_03f0&Pidxxxx entry.
Exit registry and reboot computer.
Reinstall the software with the CD in normal mode.
To reinstall the WinFax printer
Close the WinFax Message Manager and WinFax Controller.
If you are running Windows NT, 2000, or XP, stop the WinFax service.
Start Windows Explorer and go to the Insprint.exe file. The default location of this file is on the C:\Program Files\Winfax folder or a subfolder of the Winfax folder.
Double-click the Insprint.exe file. The printer driver files are reinstalled. If you see a message that printer driver files have been installed, click OK.
Restart the computer.
