An HP Officejet printer is a copier, printer and fax machine all in one. These printers offer different styles and features, depending on the model or "series" you purchase. Officejet printer problems are inevitable, especially if you have used the printer for a long time. You should be able to troubleshoot printer issues so that they do not interfere with your printing jobs.

Check for jammed papers inside the printer. Signs of paper-jam problems include strange noise inside the printer, "jammed paper" error messages or the printer ejecting blank documents when you are trying to print a document.
Turn off the printer, and unplug the power cord from the outlet. Remove the rear access door in back of the printer. Reach for and remove any jammed paper inside the product slowly and very carefully. Dot not pull a jammed paper from the front of the unit where paper is ejected. Once you clear any jams, replace the access door and try to print another document. If the printer still does not print, another factor may be causing the problem.
Make sure that the USB/parallel cable and power cable are properly attached to their respective printer ports. Turn off the printer, and power it back on.
Visit the manufacturer's website and check for recent updates for your printer driver. If there are updates available, download and install them to your computer.
Remove an empty cartridge immediately from your computer. Open the front cover of the printer, wait for the carriage to move to the center, and remove the empty ink cartridge. Replace it with a new, genuine ink cartridge. Refer to the user manual of your printer for specific instructions on how to install a new cartridge.
